MBBS: MBBS students will not be able to give medicine and advice to patients by themselves, guidelines issued in NMC

MBBS students in all medical colleges including SKMCH will not be able to self-advise medicines and tests to any patient. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued Professional Responsibility Guidelines for students and teachers of medical colleges. In this, the students have been instructed not to recommend medicines or tests to the patients at the time of screening. If any medicine has to be advised to a patient, the medical students should ask their senior doctor and then tell about the treatment of the patient.

Screening of patients is also taught to fourth year students in medical colleges. NMC has issued professional guidelines for teachers as well as students. Principal of the Medical College, Dr. Vikas Kumar said that the instructions of the National Medical Commission will be followed in the college.

Students will not share patient’s information even on social media:

Medical students will not be able to share any patient information on their social media accounts. NMC has banned this too. The commission said that sharing the patient’s information on social media has a bad effect on their mind. The NMC has directed the principals of all medical colleges including SKMCH to teach the local dialect to their students so that they do not face any problem in treating patients after passing the medical examination.

Instructions given to students to go to health camps:

NMC has instructed the students of medical colleges to go to health camps. In its new guideline, it has instructed the principals of the medical colleges to ask the medical students studying here to participate in the community health service and put their duty in it. After any disaster or any major incident, the duty of the students should also be imposed along with the senior doctor in the emergency, so that they can know the methods of treatment from the senior.

Professor will now become friend, philosopher and guide:

Along with the students, the NMC has also issued guidelines for the professors of the medical colleges. The teachers of the medical college will not only be professors but also in the role of friend, philosopher and guide for the students. The commission has said that the professors of the medical colleges have to inculcate the medical ethics of the students. In the medical college, the teachers will have to be told how the conversation will take place between the doctor and the patient. Teachers have to become role models in front of the students.

Students will also keep themselves fit:

NMC has said in its guidelines that students should keep themselves physically and mentally fit. He will stay away from any addiction and do yoga. Apart from this, involve yourself in the curricular activities in the college. Medical students will also devote their mind to spirituality.
