Sarathi Portal: Road Transport Ministry gave relief, extended the validity of driving, learner and conductor licenses till February 29.

Driving License Update: The Road Transport Ministry has given great relief to those people whose validity of driving license, learner's license and conductor license was expiring. Now the validity period of the license has been extended till 29 February 2024. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given this information by issuing a circular.  

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in the circular that due to infrastructure related reasons in the Sarathi portal (https://sarathi.pariva han.gov. in), the applicants will not be allowed to register till January 31, 2024. Difficulties have been faced in obtaining license related services between February 2024.

According to the circular, to reduce crowding in RTO offices and keep the services running, online services on the portal were partially disabled for the citizens so that the RTO could function without the problem of overload.  In such a situation, due to partial closure of online services, applicants could not pay fees, apply for services like renewal of driving license, book slots for learner's license and apply for driving skill test. 

Keeping in mind the difficulties faced by the citizens on the Parivahan portal, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided that the Learner License, Driving License and Conductor License whose validity has expired between 31 January 2024 to 15 February 2024. It will be considered valid till 29 February 2024 without charging any penalty. Enforcement officers have also been advised to consider such documents valid till February 29. 

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has asked all the states and union territories to implement this decision. In fact, the ministry had received a large number of complaints in which it was said that many people could not apply on the transport portal.
