This is why platform ticket is necessary

In fact, many times it happens that when people go to the station to catch the train to friends or relatives, they go without platform. Take the ticket and go inside. Doing this is wrong and if caught you may have to pay a fine. If you do not have a ticket to travel anywhere, then you cannot go to the platform. For this it is necessary to take platform ticket.

Measures to reduce crowding

Generally there is a lot of crowd at railway stations. Most of the people in the crowd are not passengers, but there are a good number of people dropping them at the station. To reduce the crowd due to this, Railways has made a system of platform tickets, which has been in practice for a long time. However, the rate of platform ticket has definitely increased with time.

You may have to pay this much fine

At present the rate of platform ticket of railway in India is Rs 10. That means buying a platform ticket for one person will cost you only Rs 10. Platform ticket is valid for 2 hours. If you do not have a journey ticket from the concerned station and you have not even taken a platform ticket, then if caught, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 250. If there are 4 people then the fine will increase to thousand rupees.

Platform ticket rates increased in 2015

The easy way to avoid this is that you can buy a platform ticket by spending just Rs 10. . Till a few years ago, railway platform tickets were available for only Rs 5. The government doubled its rates in 2015 and now it is available for Rs 10. In the midst of Covid, the government had decided to increase platform ticket rates to Rs 50 to control crowding at stations.
