Indian Spending Survey: In the last few years, major changes have been seen in the spending pattern of Indians. The special thing is that this change has happened in both urban and rural areas. Data released by the Ministry of Statistics has released its latest report regarding the domestic expenditure of the families of the country. This report has revealed that even today Indian families spend the largest part of their income on food items.

However, this data has also revealed that the expenditure on food and drink has decreased in the last 20 years. Along with this, Indians are now spending a lot on luxury items, clothes and entertainment. 

Indians are spending Rs 39.70 out of Rs 100 on food

According to the data released by NSSO, an Indian family living in an urban area spends only Rs 39.7 out of Rs 100 earned on food. Whereas a family living in a rural area spends Rs 47 out of Rs 100 on food and drinks. This survey also revealed that in the last few years, Indians have reduced their expenditure on grains while spending more on milk and packaged food.

The special thing found in this survey is that even though Indians are spending a large part of their income on food items, there has been a decline in this expenditure in the last 20 years. 

People are spending more on milk and packaged food

There has been an increase in expenditure on milk and packaged food. There has been an increase of 4.2 percent in the expenditure on milk and packaged food. At the same time, a decline of 7.9 percent has been recorded in the expenditure on grains. The special thing is that from 1999-2000 to 2022-23, the expenditure on food has decreased from 48.1 percent to 39.7 percent. 

Indians are spending a lot on entertainment and clothes

According to NSSO data, Indians are spending 6.5 percent of their income on entertainment. The special thing is that Indian families are spending an average of 6.5 percent on rent. Indian families are spending 5.4 percent of their income on clothes. 5.9 percent of the family's income is being spent on medical expenses. The average Indian family spends 8.5 percent on transportation. At the same time, Indian families are spending 5.7 percent of their income on education.

The NSSO survey clearly shows that Indians have reduced their expenditure on food in the last few years. Along with this, there has been an increase in entertainment, clothes, medical expenses etc. The data also shows that the demand for packaged food has also increased in the country.
