Budget 2024: This is the special team of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the responsibility of the budget is on their shoulders.

Interim Budget 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the interim budget for the next financial year 2024-25 on 1 February. This sixth budget of the Finance Minister has been prepared by a special team. The budget team includes many senior officials and economists. Today we are going to introduce you to Nirmala Sitharaman's core budget team. The command of this interim budget will be in the hands of these special people.

Nirmala Sitharaman

Sitharaman is going to become the second Finance Minister in the history of India to present the sixth consecutive budget. Before this, Morarji Desai had also presented 5 full and 1 interim budget. On February 1, she will overtake Manmohan Singh, Arun Jaitley, P Chidambaram and Yashwant Sinha. All of them got the opportunity to present 5 consecutive budgets. Finance Minister Sitharaman has said that the government's focus is on youth, women, farmers and the poor. This has increased the hope that the interim budget will focus on these issues. TV Somanathan

TV Somanathan is the senior most secretary in the Finance Ministry. Somanathan has the responsibility of Finance Secretary. Somanathan, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, had worked in the Prime Minister's Office from April 2015 to August 2017. He is close to PM Modi. The Finance Secretary is a PhD in Economics. More than 80 of his papers and articles have been published on economics. Besides this he has also written two books. He has also served as Director of the World Bank. 

Ajay Seth

Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, is the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry. He came into limelight last year during the G20 meeting chaired by India. Seth also initiated the issuance of India's first sovereign green bond and the creation of the Infrastructure Finance Secretariat. 

Tuhin Kanta Pandey

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), is known for the role he played in the privatization of Air India and the IPO of LIC. Pandey is a 1987 batch officer of Odisha cadre.

Sanjay Malhotra

Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch officer of Rajasthan cadre, is currently the Revenue Secretary. Before this he was the head of the Financial Services Department. Malhotra is handling the responsibility of increasing tax revenue in the budget process. He also has the responsibility of drafting Part B of Finance Minister Sitharaman's budget speech. 

Vivek Joshi

Vivek Joshi is counted among the newest members in the group of advisors to the Finance Minister on the budget. He joined the Finance Ministry as Secretary, Department of Financial Services in November, 2022. Joshi, a 1989 batch officer of Haryana cadre, has obtained a doctorate degree in International Economics from Geneva University. Vivek Joshi was the first Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. Sectors like banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and National Pension System will be Joshi's responsibility. 

V Ananth Nageswaran

V Anantha Nageswaran is the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India. He is also known as a writer and teacher. He is one of Sitharaman's closest advisors on the issue of economy. He also oversees the impact of global turmoil on the Indian economy. He played an important role in the G20 meeting along with Ajay Seth. Nageswaran has done MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. He also received a doctorate degree from Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst. However, the Chief Economic Advisor also releases the Economic Survey before the Budget. But, due to the interim budget, this will not happen this time.
