CBI raids in 14 states, including Gujarat, in child pornography cases

The country was raided by the CBI on Tuesday over child pornography. The CBI had raided 77 places across the country, including Gujarat, for making and sharing child pornographic videos. According to CBI officials, an FIR was registered against 83 accused in the case on November 14

Investigations are underway in three cities in Gujarat, including Junagadh, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. The CBI suspects that the business of child pornography has spread to over 100 countries. On November 14, 23 FIRs were registered. Online child abuse complaints were registered against 83 people.

CBI’s RC Joshi said the proceedings were ongoing in 14 states and union territories. Notably, according to the National Crime Records Bureau, cyber crime against children across the country has increased by more than 400 per cent in 2020 as compared to 2019.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of cyber pornography cases against children, followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala. More than 100 cases have been reported in these four states. 161 cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh, 123 in Maharashtra, 122 in Karnataka and 101 in Kerala. Apart from this, 71 cases were reported in Odisha, 28 in Tamil Nadu, 21 in Assam, 20 in Madhya Pradesh, 17 in Himachal Pradesh, 16 in Haryana, 15 in Andhra Pradesh, 8 in Punjab and 6 in Rajasthan.
