Repayment of 25 thousand borrowed
Narayan Ghanchi defended himself and said that he has been in a relationship with the complainant for nine years. The complainant and her husband bought a house in Vatwa. He then demanded Rs 25,000 loaned in 2018 and then filed a complaint. The prosecution submitted before the court that the police was not registering the complaint of the victim. And the complaint was registered after she called the 181 helpline. During the trial the woman and her husband supported the prosecution, but the witnesses withdrew.
Lockdown was going on at that time
The court did not find enough evidence to convict Ghanchi in the rape case. The defense counsel’s argument found credence that the crimes were alleged to have been committed mainly during the lockdown. However, due to the ban at this time, the chances of anyone leaving the house were slim. After the trial, Additional Sessions Judge SV Vyas mentioned in the order that, the victim and her husband have accepted that during the lockdown there was no possibility of labor and people were at home.
Court acquitted
The alleged incidents took place between February and October 2020. When this happened there was a nationwide lockdown with restrictions on people’s movement. Hours could be moved only with special permission. The court acquitted the accused after observing that there was no crime on record against the accused for violating the lockdown rules.
