International Women’s Day: The news of discrimination and violence against women keep coming from all over the world, but after the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan, this country has become extremely dangerous for women. The United Nations (UN) also acknowledged this on Wednesday, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The United Nations said on Wednesday that after the Taliban’s occupation, the women of Afghanistan are not even getting their basic rights. Afghanistan has become the most oppressive country in the world for women and girls. UN has issued a report in this regard.
In a statement issued on International Women’s Day, the UN mission said that anti-women laws have been implemented in Afghanistan since the new regime. Due to this, the women there are forced to remain imprisoned in their homes. After capturing power in August 2021, the Taliban has done the work of taking away their rights from women. Significantly, after two decades of war, the US and NATO forces withdrew from Afghanistan and the country was re-occupied by the Taliban.
Taliban reneges on its promise
According to the United Nations statement, after taking over the power of Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban had promised to adopt a moderate stance, but despite that it has implemented strict rules. Roza Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of Mission in Afghanistan, said that it is sad to see the restrictions on Afghan women and girls. At present, several laws regarding women have been implemented in the Taliban, whose opposition was also seen.
