British scientists have discovered a new strain, a subtype of omecron. This strain, called Omycron BA.2 subtype or ‘Stealth Omaicron’ , which has spread to more than 40 countries. What is special about this subtype is that it can escape RT-PCR testing. The stealth omecron has caused a stir throughout Europe.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are three subtypes (strains) of the omecron type – BA.1, BA.2 and BA.3. The BA.1 subtype is the most prominent of the omycron infections reported worldwide, with the BA.2 subtype spreading rapidly. About half of the BA.2 subtypes were reported in Omycron patients found on January 20 in Denmark. The BA.2 subtype is the fastest spreading subtype of the omicron, according to the UK Health Authority.
In addition to the UK and Denmark, patients with the BA.2 subtype have been found in Sweden, Norway and India. Scientists in India and France have warned about this subtype, which is feared to overtake the BA.1 strain. As of January 10, the UK had identified 53 specimens of the BA.2 subtype.
