Pervez Musharraf overthrew Nawaz Sharif government in Pakistan on this day

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) In the history of neighboring Pakistan, October 12 is recorded as the day of the government’s coup at the hands of the army chief. In fact, on this day in 1999, the then army chief of the country, Pervez Musharraf, took over the reins of governance by overthrowing the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In this bloodless revolution, Nawaz was arrested after he was accused of hijacking Musharraf’s plane coming from Sri Lanka and spreading terrorism. He was later deported to Saudi Arabia along with 40 family members.
