Islamabad : Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has said that martial law may be imposed in the country due to tensions between Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This statement has come when anarchy has started spreading in the country due to the economic crisis. Addressing the media, the JI chief said, “The present PDM government has become a burden on the country.” Sirajul Haque condemned the government’s attempts to ‘suppress’ the protests.

He said that peaceful demonstration is the constitutional right of every political party. The Express Tribune quoted Sirajul Haq as saying, “The government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) are flouting the Constitution and Supreme Court orders by running away from the elections.” Sirajul Haque said that the caretaker Punjab provincial government is part of the PDM. “From their (caretaker government’s) statements it seems that they will stay for a long time,” he said.

‘The country will survive only in a democratic way’

He said, ‘I want to make it clear that this country came into existence through a democratic process and can survive only in a democratic way.’ Warning of dire consequences, he announced that he would take on “those who undermine the Constitution”, The Express Tribune reported. Pointing to the duplicity of the ruling coalition, the JI chief said that the PPP and the PML-N were opposing inflation before coming to power.

‘Parties are not giving up luxury cars’

Sirajul Haque said, ‘Lines of free wheat flour are selling death.’ Pakistan’s The Express Tribune reported that five poor people have already lost their lives in the race to collect basic necessities. Sirajul Haque alleged that these parties including PPP, PML-N and PTI are not ready to give up their protocols, perks, luxury cars and mansions.
