Nepal Presidential Election: The election for the post of President in Nepal will be held today i.e. on Thursday (March 9). Ram Chandra Poudel of Nepali Congress and Subhash Chandra Nembang of CPAN-UML are in the race for the post. Nepal’s Election Commission said on Wednesday (March 8) that all preparations for the presidential election have been completed.
There is a contest between two former speakers of the House of Representatives in the Presidential Election. The candidate supported by the eight-party alliance is Ram Chandra Poudel (78), while Subhash Nembang (69) has been nominated by the CPAN-UML.
Results by 7 pm
The term of the current President of the Himalayan country Nepal, Vidya Devi Bhandari, is ending on March 12. According to Election Commission officials, the polling will be held from 10 am to 3 pm in the Parliament House here. The commission will start the counting of votes from 4 pm and the result will be declared at 7 pm. Talking to ANI, Election Officer of Nepal Mahesh Sharma Paudel said that in view of the voting for the presidential election to be held in the Lhotse Hall of the Parliament House in New Baneshwar, all technical, human resource and other managerial related preparations have been completed. are gone.
There are total 884 member electoral college in the country. Which includes 275 members of the House of Representatives, 59 members of the National Assembly and 550 members of the seven provincial assemblies. This means, if there are no vacancies in the Federal Parliamentary and Provincial Assemblies, the Electoral College will have a total weighting of 52,786 votes. And to secure the presidency, a candidate must get a majority of the total votes.
Nepal monarchy away from elections
The weightage of one vote of the MLA of the Federal Parliament is 79 and that of the Member of the Provincial Assembly is 48. Nepal’s pro-monarchy party will abstain from voting. Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) which is known for its pro-monarchy example. He has decided to stay away from Thursday’s presidential election. In the meeting of the Central Working Committee of the party held on Wednesday, it was decided to stay away from today’s voting. RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha confirmed that the Central Working Committee has decided to remain neutral in the presidential election.
