Egypt: Why there is an uproar over the bid for the passport of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat being imposed in America, know

Egypt: The family of late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat is very angry after his passport was auctioned. The family has called on authorities to investigate the sale of the former president’s passport at a US auction house. The family argues that his passport is part of the country’s heritage. 

It is noteworthy that the diplomatic passport of former Egyptian President Sadat was sold on February 22 at the Heritage Auction in Dallas, Texas for $47,500, information about this has been given on the official website. Karim Sadat, the grandson of the former President, is very serious about this matter. Please tell that Karim himself is also a member of Parliament. Regarding this matter, he has said that selling grandfather’s passport is an insult. This disgrace is for my family as well as for the entire Egyptian people.

How to get passport to auction house 

The MP told an Egyptian TV talk show host on Saturday that it is expected that the Foreign Ministry will investigate the incident. Since the incident, many people have wondered how it reached the auction house. Sadat said that as far as he knew, after his grandfather’s death, his grandmother handed over his belongings to the Library of Alexandria in northern Egypt. But library director Ahmed Zayed told the same talk show host on Saturday that the former president’s passport was not among the items. 

If media reports are to be believed, there is no mention about the new owner of the former President’s passport on the auction website. According to Heritage Auctions  , the travel document issued on March 19, 1974 has forty-eight pages and is unsigned. It was valid till March 18, 1981 and is a stamped visa since 1974.
