New York, Jan 24 (PTI) As India celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a documentary depicting Netaji’s life from the perspective of Malaysian soldiers who had served in the Azad Hind Fauj (INA) has surfaced.
India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations T.S. Tirumurti is heard saying in the documentary, “The film is an attempt to see Netaji, the Azad Hind Fauj and the Rani Regiment of Jhansi through the eyes of Malaysian soldiers who fought alongside Netaji.”
A 30-minute documentary made in the year 2018 ‘At the Alter of India’s Freedom – INA Veterans of Malaysia’ is directed by journalist Chudi Sivaram and produced by Tirumurti and Indian High Commission in Malaysia.
Tirumurti shared the link of the documentary, which will now be available on YouTube to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji.
In the documentary, the Indo-Malaysian freedom fighters who joined the Azad Hind Fauj recount their journey as young teenagers, inspired by Netaji themselves and living thousands of kilometers away from India, on Netaji’s call to fight for the country’s independence. has done.
Datuk Rasamma Bhupalan, who was in the Rani Regiment of Jhansi of Azad Hind Fauj, recalled, “We were mesmerized when Netaji came. It really changed the whole scenario.”
Bhupalan also recalled that her mother was shocked when she learned that she was going to join the Rani Regiment of Jhansi.
Netaji was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack and his birth anniversary was celebrated as Parakram Divas in India yesterday.
