Super Earth Type Planets Discovered : An international team of astronomers has discovered a planet (Super-Earth) that is 40 percent larger than Earth. This planet is about 100 light-years away from Earth. Researchers have called it a super earth. Human habitation may be possible on this Super-Earth. There are 1,600 known super-Earths larger than Earth so far compared to any other planets in our Solar System. These super-Earths are lighter than the icy planets Uranus and Neptune. Researchers at the University of Liege in Belgium have discovered a super earth.
The Discovery of an Earth-Like Planet –
Researchers from the University of Liège used the Speculoos (Search For Habitable Planets EClipsing ULtra-COOl Stars-SPECULOOS) telescope in Chile and Spain with a high-precision camera to get a closer look at the planet. This telescope is used to search for planets living in the solar system. At the same time, stargazers discovered another planet LP 890-9c (LP 890-9c). Researchers at the University of Liège named it SPECULOOS-2c. This planet is 40 percent larger than Earth. Also, this planet takes 8.5 days to orbit the Sun.
Possibility of Water on Super-Earth –
This new planet discovered by researchers is possible for human habitation. Because there is a possibility of water here. Francisco Pozuelos, a researcher at Spain’s Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia and one of the main co-authors of the paper, issued a circular about this. This new planet is 3.7 million miles from the Sun. However, human settlements can be built here. This planet may be good for human habitation. Pozuelos said, " This planet orbits very quickly. At 10 times less distance around our Sun than Mercury, it receives even less stellar radiation. Liquid water could exist on the surface of this planet, if it had enough atmosphere. Because, this planet (LP 890-9) is about 6.5 times smaller than the Sun. The surface temperature on this planet is half that of ours.
