On September 11, 2001, the Islamic extremist organization al-Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center in New York City by four planes, including 19 of its members. Terrorists hijacked four passenger planes. After this these planes were used for suicide attacks. The first and second planes collided on the north and south sides of the building, while the third jet attacked the Pentagon outside Washington DC. While the fourth plane went down in Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 people died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The first plane collided at 8.45 am

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m., an American Airlines Boeing 767 carrying 20,000 gallons of jet fuel struck the North Building of the World Trade Center. Thousands of people died in a fire that broke out from the 80th floor of the 110-storey building. Many people were trapped on the upper floors. After 18 minutes, United Airlines Flight 175 collided with the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Due to which the 60th floor of the building was pierced.

Some facts about the 9/11 attack

1- After the terrorist attack, the flames at Ground Zero (where this attack took place) were not completely extinguished till December 19, 2001. More than 185,101 tonnes of steel from ground zero were used in all the monuments of the United Nations. It was also exported to China and India.

2- The CIA informed Clinton that Osama bin Laden was preparing to hijack American planes and other attacks. On 4 December 1998, the CIA informed the President in its routine briefing that they intended to hijack the plane to secure the release of Yousef and other prisoners.

3- On February 26, 1993, a bomb was planted in a vehicle parked in the basement parking of the WTC (World Trade Center). The device exploded, killing six people and injuring more than 1,000. Ramzi Yousef, the Sunni terrorist who set the bombs, later said he had planned to kill 250,000 people.

4- According to the paper, the CIA and other agencies devised a plan to arrest bin Laden in early 1998. It was suspended and reactivated, but had to be put on hold due to military officials' misunderstandings about their dependence on Afghan tribal chiefs.

5- The then National Security Adviser Sandy Berger was concerned about what would happen to Osama bin Laden if he was captured and if the evidence against him could lead to criminal conviction in a US court.
