Baliya: Two Rohingya refugees have been detained from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia. These refugees are allegedly accused of staying illegally. This action has been taken by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). ATS Varanasi unit with the cooperation of police arrested two Rohingya refugees who were allegedly living illegally in the country from Ballia. An official provided this information on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, the Varanasi unit of ATS and Ballia district police arrested Arman alias Abu Talha and Abdul Amin. Indian passport, voter ID, PAN, Aadhaar card and Saudi currency have been recovered from these people.
The officer said that after his arrest, Armaan told the police that he was a Rohingya refugee. He came to India in 2008. He told that he used to work at the shop of Sagir Ahmed, a resident of Ballia, in Moreh, Manipur. After that he came to Ballia and started living in a rented house in Umarganj area. After this he started trying to become a permanent resident here. Now after the matter is opened, both are being interrogated by taking them into custody.
Before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, a former village headman’s brother gave him a voter ID card, on the basis of which he later got a PAN, Aadhaar card and passport. Ballia Nagar police station in-charge Rajeev Singh told that Armaan was living in Ballia for 15 years. Abdul Amin came here on Tuesday. He informed that an FIR has been registered in this regard. Further investigation is going on.
