Bareilly: Police have arrested four cow smugglers after an encounter in Bahedi area of Bareilly district. An accused and a constable were injured in the encounter. A police officer gave this information on Saturday. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajkumar Aggarwal said that after incidents of cow slaughter in Akha and Sakras villages of Bahedi police station area on Friday, the police arrested four accused from Akha village.
He told that on the trail of a cow smuggler named Manzoor Ahmed, the police reached Akha village with him to recover the tools used in cow slaughter. Manzoor had told that he had buried the tools in a field in the village. Aggarwal told that Manzoor, who reached the field with the police, took out a pistol from the ground and fired at the police, asking them to remove a buried tool.
Constable Rituraj was injured in the hand by a bullet and Manzoor Ahmed was injured in retaliatory action by the police, he said. The injured constable and cow smuggler were brought to the Community Health Center, where the doctors referred them to Bareilly Headquarters Hospital after first aid.
The police have recovered the tools used in cow slaughter from Akha village. Superintendent of Police Rural said that the arrested people are being interrogated thoroughly.
