September 2020. This was the month and year when YouTube Shorts was launched. At that time both YouTube and Facebook’s parent company Meta had added short form video formats of 15 seconds, 30 seconds and 60 seconds to their respective platforms.  Both companies claimed at the end of last year that they had crossed the 1 billion monthly user mark.

Neil Mohan, Chief Product Officer, YouTube said, "YouTube shorts is really showing its mettle now. It is seeing more than 1.5 million login users every month."

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said, YouTube shorts averaged 30 billion views per day in April, which is four times more than a year ago. The company had prepared a fund of $100 million last year to push it. The platform has paid up to $10,000 per month to short video creators from this fund."
