The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released the passenger vehicle report for the month of September. According to the report, the passenger vehicle wholesale increased 26.45 percent to 2,72,027 units. Whereas, in September 2019, this figure was 2,15,124 units. That is, 56,903 units were sold last month based on year-over-year figures.
Two-wheeler sales up 11.64%
According to the latest SIAM data, two-wheeler sales in September were up by 11.64 percent to 18,49,546 units. Whereas in September 2019, this figure was 16,56,658 units. That is, 1,92,888 units were more sales based on year-on-year figures.
The motorcycle sales were 12,24,117 units as against 10,43,621 units in September 2019. That is, the motorcycle segment saw a growth of 17.3%. At the same time, the scooter segment saw a slight increase on a year-on-year basis. Last month the scooter sold 5,56,205 units, in September 2019 this figure was 5,55,754 units.
Sales increased in the July-September quarter
Passenger vehicle sales were up 17.02 percent to 7,26,232 units in the July-September 2020 quarter from 6,20,620 units in the same period last fiscal. Two-wheeler sales during the September quarter stood at 46,90,565 units in the fiscal year, as against 46,82,571 units in the same period last fiscal.
Commercial vehicle sales declined by 20.13%
However, commercial vehicle sales in July-September 2019 stood at 1,67,173 units, falling by 20.13% to 1,33,524 units in the same period. Vehicle sales during the second quarter declined marginally to 55,96,223 units from 56,51,459 units in the same period last fiscal.
