IMEI Registration: The stolen phone can be easily tracked, the government announced this regarding IMEI number

IMEI Registration Rule: In India, changes are going to happen very soon regarding the IMEI number of the smartphone. The government has announced that from January 1, 2023, it will be necessary to register the IMEI of all mobile phones before sale in India. This registration will be done on the country’s anti-counterfeiting and lost handset blocking portal. Once the rules are fully implemented, it will be necessary to obtain the IMEI certificate from the Indian Counterfeited Device Restriction Portal operated by the Department of Telecommunications.

Each smartphone comes with a unique 15-digit IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. The IMEI acts as the unique ID of the device. In fact, it is difficult to track a lost mobile phone due to the presence of fake devices with the same IMEI on the telecom network. Because of this, the government has announced this new rule. Let’s find out more about it.
