Woman PSI and assistant lawyer remanded in Rs 10,000 bribery case

Surat: The Special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Sunday remanded a woman PSI and her assistant lawyer posted at the city’s Athwalines police station to one-day remand. ACB officials arrested the duo for soliciting bribes from a woman who wanted to file a complaint against her husband.

A woman had approached PSI Kamala Gamit to lodge a complaint of molestation against her husband, ACB sources said. Gamit demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to file a complaint against the woman, which was to be paid to fellow PSI lawyer Pankaj Makode.

He approached ACB Surat as the woman did not want to give bribe. The trap was set by the police on Saturday on the instructions of NP Gohil, assistant director, ACB. ACB officials caught Makode red-handed accepting a bribe near the gate of the Mahila police station. The female PSI was also arrested after Makode’s confession. Both the accused were produced in the Special ACB Court on Sunday evening. From where his remand has been granted.

The investigation revealed that PSI Gamit had demanded Rs 10,000 through Makode and the complainant had lodged a complaint with the ACB. A team of police inspectors including DM Vasava and KR Saxena, NP Gohil, assistant director, ACB set the trap and caught the lawyer by the hand. The ACB team arrested PSI Kamala Gamit and lawyer Pankaj Makode after the interrogating lawyer confessed.
