Free bus travel for female passengers …. Government said Adengappa update!

During the ongoing budget session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, a discussion was held today on the Transport Department grant request. Following this, Minister SS Sivasankar issued various new announcements related to the sector.

More importantly, the Department of Transport’s policy statement on how many female passengers have so far benefited from the free travel offer on government buses.

All female passengers are allowed to travel free of charge only on ordinary fare city buses operated by all state transport corporations with the aim of facilitating their integration into the community and achieving economic balance.

7,321 ordinary city buses are being operated across Tamil Nadu for this project. The project carries 36 lakh female passengers daily. This will make it easier for women to access their workplace and provide them with access to education, health and leisure.

As on April 30, 106.34 crore women were traveling. This is 61.78 per cent of the total number of passengers traveling in ordinary city buses, according to the Department of Transportation’s policy statement.
