Nellore district Atmakuru assembly constituency by-election is over. Polling was held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Authorities allowed voters to reach the polling station by 6pm to cast their ballots. More than 60 per cent polling was recorded till 6 pm. Authorities set up CCTV cameras, webcams and micro-observers at all 131 troubled polling stations in the constituency to ensure that no irregularities took place. The polls were conducted by 1,339 polling staff, 1,100 police personnel and the central forces of the three companies. 38 complaints were received and all were resolved.
A small incident took place during this by-election polling. The clash took place at the AS Peta Mandal Thimmanayudupalli polling station. There was an altercation between BJP candidate Bharat and YCP candidate Vikram Reddy Baba. When the police came and corrected him, both the groups went out. With this everything breathed a sigh of relief. Except for this one incident everything went smoothly.
The fate of by-election candidates is enshrined in EVMs. Authorities moved the EVMs to the Strong Room at the Andhra Engineering College. The by-election was inevitable with the sudden death of Mekapati Gautam Reddy, who served as a minister. TDP did not contest while Gautam Reddy’s brother Vikram Reddy from YCP was in the ring. G Bharat Kumar from BJP, N Obulesu from BSP along with five other recognized party candidates and six independent candidates are in the fray. The results of the Atmakuru by-election will be announced on the 26th of this month.
