Atmakur Bypoll: With the sudden death of former minister Gautam Reddy, by-election in Atmakur has become inevitable. With this, the polling for the by-election on Thursday is going on peacefully. Police are taking steps to prevent any untoward incidents. Election officials said 24.92 per cent polling was recorded from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. A total of 14 candidates are in the fray from the constituency in this by-election. TDP is away from this competition. Police have set up special security for polling in 123 troubled areas in the constituency. Observed by CCTV footage from time to time. A total of 279 polling stations were set up in the constituency, with 1,339 generals and 1,032 police personnel deployed. In addition, 142 Micro Observers and 38 Sector Officers will be on duty. A total of 377 EVMs were prepared.

Returning Officer, Jesse MN Harendira Prasad said that special security has been deployed to prevent any riots or other incidents. Voters are required to bring voter ID along with voter slips, voter ID, Aadhaar, bank passbook, passport etc. to exercise their right to vote. Gautam Reddy’s brother Mekapati Vikram Reddy is in the fray for the YCP while Bharat Kumar is in the fray for the BJP. The counting will take place on the 26th. While 83.38 per cent polling was recorded in Atmakur in the 2019 elections, it remains to be seen what percentage of polling will be registered for this by-election.
