Action if ‘G’ or ‘A’ is used in the vehicle – Government of Tamil Nadu Warning!

The Tamil Nadu government has warned that action will be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act against those who use the letter G or A on the vehicles of state-owned companies, boards and public sector entities other than government vehicles.

According to a press release issued by the Commissioner of Transport:
There are complaints that non-government vehicles are being used illegally all over Tamil Nadu with the letters G or A written on the number plate or affixed with a sticker.

According to Section 3 (K) of the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Act, a government vehicle is a Government of Tamil Nadu vehicle only. Government vehicles are tax deductible and salvage certified. Therefore the letters G or A should be used only on the vehicles of the Government of Tamil Nadu which are eligible for the relevant tax exemption and salvage certificate.
