Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of the Indian cricket team broke the record of most Test wickets held by Pakistan legend Wasim Akram a day earlier. Turbanator Harbhajan Singh equalized by dismissing Will Young just before the stumps of the fourth day of the Kanpur Test today. Ashwin has 417 wickets in Test cricket, while Harbhajan Singh also has 417 wickets in 103 Tests.
Ashwin, playing the 80th Test match of his career, surpassed Akram by dismissing Kyle Jamieson at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur against New Zealand, while dismissing Will Young equaled Bhajji’s record for most Test wickets. Ashwin has come at number 13 in the list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets in the longest format of cricket. Ashwin (80), however, has played far fewer Tests than Bhajji (103 Tests).
By the way, the record of taking most wickets for India is in the name of former leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble has taken 619 wickets in his name. Kapil Dev is at number two in this list, who has taken 434 wickets in Tests.
