Used to threaten Islam… now Shahid Afridi made serious allegations against Pakistani Hindu cricketer

New Delhi: There was an earthquake in the cricket world when Pakistani Hindu cricketer Danish Kaneria made many serious allegations against Shahid Afridi including pressure to convert to Islam. He had said that he was treated step-motherly in the team. Afridi used to pressurize him to convert to Islam. His own companions did not eat together. Not only this, he had even said in his allegations that Shahid had also conspired to keep him on the bench for a long time.

Now Shahid Afridi’s statement has come on this matter. He vehemently denied all the allegations and at the same time blamed Kaneria on the contrary. He said that the Danish always let him down. Former Pakistan captain Afridi said, “He is making such allegations to earn cheap fame and money.”

Afridi said that Kaneria was like a brother to him and he always supported him. He said, ‘Why is he accusing me now? Why didn’t they complain to Pakistan Cricket Board and Habib Bank Ltd about my behavior towards me at that time? This should be told to them. Everyone knows about the character of Danish. Here Afridi was referring to the Danish fixing case.

He further said, ‘Kaneria had done spot-fixing in England and there he was convicted. He is giving interviews to our rival country (India) and provoking religious sentiments. It is noteworthy that when Danish disclosed this, his partner Shoaib Akhtar had also admitted that some people used to treat him like this in the team. Shoaib, however, did not take names and later rounded off his reply.

Kaneria had said, ‘Me and Afridi used to play for the same department. That’s why he kept me on the bench. The team had senior players like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shoaib Akhtar, Moin Khan, Rashid Latif and Younis Khan, but they only had problems with Afridi. Kaneria had praised Younis Khan and said, ‘Afridi was the captain of my department and used to make me sit on the bench. However, when Younis Khan became the captain, he included me in all the playing XI.
