Sri Lanka innings:
Not a single Sri Lankan batsman scored a half-century in the first innings. Kushal Mendis top-scored with 36 (41). Next Tananjaya de Silva and Shanaka both scored 34 runs each. None of the others scored 20+ runs.
When Sri Lanka scored 220/9 in 47.4 overs, the rain interrupted. The third umpire also announced that the Sri Lankan innings was over.
Pat Cummins took 4/35 wickets to put Sri Lanka in crisis.
Aussie innings:
Chasing the target, Australia set a target of 216 for victory in 43 overs. Since this was a simple goal, it was assumed that the Australian team would win.
However, the Australian team, like Sri Lanka, displayed a stumbling block. Opener David Warner top-scored with 37 (51) and Maxwell added 30 off 25 balls.
Shock failure:
Steven Smith 28 (35) and Travis Head 23 (34) added some runs. Pinch 14 (15), Lapushen 18 (30) and Alex Harry 15 (20) did not make a big impact. Thus, the Australian team lost by 26 runs, adding only 189/10 at the end of 37.1 overs.
Karunaratne took 3/47 wickets. Sameera, Tananjaya and Vellalake took two wickets each.
Both teams are currently tied at 1-1. The third ODI will be played on the 19th.
