Salim Durani Passed Away: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former cricketer Salim Durrani. PM Modi described the former cricketer as an institution in himself. In his condolence message, the Prime Minister said that he played an important role in the rise of India in the world of cricket. Salim Durrani died on 2 April in Jamnagar. He was 88 years old. He was ill for a long time. Everyone is remembering his contribution to cricket. He represented the Indian cricket team for about 13 years. He was famous for hitting a six on the demand of the audience. 

PM Modi expressed condolences

Prime Minister on the death of former cricketer Salim Durrani Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences. PM Modi tweeted and wrote, ‘Salim Durani was a legend of cricket, he was an institution in himself. He contributed significantly to the rise of India in the world of cricket. He was known for his style inside and outside the field. I am saddened by his death. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace’.

A memorable victory for India

Salim Durrani gave India many memorable victories in the Test. In the year 1961-62, he played an important role in making Team India win the Kolkata and Madras Tests against England. Then he took 8 wickets in Kolkata Test and 10 wickets in Madras (Chennai) Test. About 10 years later, he got one such memorable victory for India in the Port of Spain Test against the West Indies. In that match, he took the wickets of Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers. 

Cricket career of Salim Durrani

Salim Durrani made his Test debut in January 1960 against Australia. He played for India for almost 13 years. During this, he represented the Indian team in 29 Test matches. He has 1202 runs in the test. In the biggest format of cricket, he has one century and 7 half-centuries to his name. His highest score in Test was 104 runs. Apart from this, he scored 8545 runs in first class cricket. Salim Durrani scored 14 centuries and 45 half-centuries in first-class cricket. His highest score in first class cricket was 137 not out.
