This season of IPL remains a very bad coincidence with Delhi Capitals. After the victory in the first match of the season, it got two consecutive defeats. But after that the cycle of victory after victory, then victory, then defeat, then victory continues. Accordingly, Delhi had to lose against Chennai Super Kings in the match played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Such was the thrill of the match
The team could not break the chain and were reduced to 117 runs in 17.4 overs in reply to Chennai’s 208 for six. For Chennai, the opening pair of Devon Conway (87 runs) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (41 runs, 33 balls) once again did wonders and put on 110 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs. By the fifth over, both the Delhi openers returned to the pavilion. However, after these two quick blows, captain Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh took an aggressive stand.
Pant hit four consecutive fours
Pant did not take any run in the first ball of his quota but after that he hit four fours in four consecutive balls. Marsh, on the other hand, also looked quite aggressive. Both kept the team in the match by reaching 70 runs till the end of the seventh over. But, in the eighth over of the innings and in his first over, Moeen Ali broke the pair by getting Marsh caught by Ruturaj. In the next over, Moeen also took away Delhi’s breath by walking Pant and Ripple Patel. In the very next over, Mukesh Chaudhary bowled the first letter and then ensured Chennai’s victory by getting Delhi’s last hope Rovman Powell caught by Captain Dhoni.
