This will be the first time in IPL history, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not get the support of either Jadeja and Suresh Raina in the Chennai team. Ravindra Jadeja was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 auction. Suresh Raina was with Chennai from the very first season. In 2020, when Raina withdrew his name for personal reasons, Jadeja was still a part of the team. Raina was not bought by any team in this year’s auction and now Jadeja is also out.
Apart from Dhoni, both of them captained Chennai.
Apart from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, only Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina have captained Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Raina never became the regular captain of Chennai, but whenever Dhoni was injured, he got a chance to lead. Earlier this season, Dhoni had decided to step down from the captaincy of Chennai. After which the management showed confidence in Ravindra Jadeja but he failed completely.
Played only two matches after leaving the captain
Ravindra Jadeja had decided to step down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings on 30 May. After this he got a chance to play in two matches. The pressure of captaincy was clearly visible on his game this season. Jadeja got only 5 wickets in 10 matches. Only 116 runs came off his bat. Jadeja, one of the best fielder in the world, also dropped many easy catches in the tournament.
