Punjab Kings restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 157 for eight

Mumbai, May 22 (PTI) Punjab Kings’ bowlers displayed extremely disciplined performance to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 157 for eight in the last league match of the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

Arshdeep Singh conceded only 25 runs in four overs while celebrating his selection in the Indian team with economical bowling. On the other hand, Harpreet Brar took three wickets for 26 runs in four overs. He sent Priyam Garg, Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram to the pavilion.

Four qualifier teams have been decided so this match is just a formality. The Sunrisers team looked very tired and the lack of motivation among the players was clearly visible.

The season’s best batsman for Sunrisers Abhishek Sharma once again got off to a good start but could not convert it into a big innings. He scored 43 runs in 32 balls.

Tripathi completed 400 runs in this session but returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs. The teasing of not being selected in the Indian team somewhere dominated his performance and he could not even play strokes openly.

Romario Shepherd made an unbeaten 26 off 15 balls and Washington Sundar made 25 off 19 balls to take Sunrisers past 150. Both have 4. Added 58 runs for the 6th wicket in 5 overs.

More than 50 runs were scored in the last four overs. Nathan Ellis took three wickets for 40 runs in four overs but proved costly in the last overs.

Ellis picked up wickets in two consecutive balls but Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not allow him to take a hat-trick. However, he was run out on the next ball.
