On This Day, Virender Sehwag: Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has always been known for his explosive batting. Sehwag was such a batsman who changed the way of playing cricket. Sehwag used to play equally in all the three formats. In 2008, on this day i.e. March 28, Sehwag created history by playing a Test match against South Africa. He had scored the fastest triple century in Test cricket. Sehwag had completed his triple century in 278 balls. Sehwag still holds the record for the fastest triple century in Test cricket. 

An inning of 319 runs 

South Africa toured India in 2008 for a three-Test series. In the very first match of the series, Virender Sehwag created history by scoring 319 runs in 304 balls. A total of 42 fours and 5 sixes were included in this innings of Sehwag. This Test match between India and South Africa was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

The feat was done by India in the first innings

South Africa, who came out to bat first in the match, had scored 540 runs. In response, the Indian team came out to bat for their first innings.  627 runs were put on the board. Sehwag’s historic triple century was included in this. Let us tell you that only 4 players have scored triple century twice in the history of Test cricket. While talking about this match played against Africa, this match ended in a draw.

Sehwag’s international career like this 

Virender Sehwag has played a total of 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20 Internationals in his international career. He has scored 8586 runs in Tests at an average of 49.34, 8273 runs in ODIs at an average of 35.06 and 394 runs in T20 Internationals with a strike rate of 145.39.
