Team India’s star players Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have fully recovered from their injuries. To this extent, he got a place in the Asia Cup 2023 team which was announced on Monday. Don’t think too much about the fourth place..
“Don’t think too much about the number four position in the Indian team. It’s just a number. Anyone can play there. We have players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer to play in that position. No one is born to bat as an opener, third position, fourth position. Who ever bats? There are no rules to come. Players should be ready to play in all positions depending on the needs of the team. In fact, there is a lot of talent in our country (India). That is the real problem.”
Sachin also batted in many positions..
“In ODIs, at the beginning of my career, I batted in the middle order. I opened when the captain asked. Sachin used to bat at number six. We saw how he excelled when he became an opener. So all I can say is that anyone can bat at number four. We have Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul. There are. My advice is the same. The coach, the captain and the selectors together give one player the fourth spot in the team. Play all the matches with him.”
Cups won’t come if only one person plays..
“Batting position does not make a big difference. You cannot win the World Cup with one player. You can win only if you perform as a team. I want the selected players to play the Asia Cup, Australia series and the World Cup now. I have faith in this team.” Ganguly opined.
BCCI on Monday announced the 17-man squad for Asia Cup 2023. Re-entry was given to KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer who were absent due to injuries. Hyderabad player Tilak Verma also got a place in the team.
