New Zealand don’t fear Australia, but they play swing better than India: Hesson

Auckland, Nov 19 (PTI) Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has rubbished claims that the New Zealand team is afraid of Australia but said the Australians play swing bowling better, which has been a problem for India.

Australia defeated New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final. Earlier, he was defeated by Australia in the 2015 ODI World Cup final as well.

Hesson told ‘Sen New Zealand’, ‘We are in two big matches before Australia. 2015 World Cup and T20 World Cup 2021. We beat him several times in the last six-seven years in the Chappell Hadley Trophy.

India, on the other hand, has a poor record against New Zealand in ICC tournaments. The last time India defeated New Zealand in an ICC tournament was the 2003 World Cup under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. After that it lost to New Zealand in T20 World Cup and World Test Championship finals. In the ODI World Cup 2019 also he was defeated by New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Hesson said, “We have done well against India while Australia could not. Australia plays our swing bowlers well which Indian batsmen are not able to do as well. That’s it, there is no fear etc.
