National Sports Awards Winners: The list of National Sports Awards given annually by the Central Government has been released. A total of 40 people have been selected for this year. India’s veteran table tennis player Sarath Kamal has been awarded the highest sports award Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. He won 3 gold medals and one silver at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year. But the surprising thing is that the Khel Ratna award is going to me this year. Also, Boxing world champion, Hyderabadi girl Nikhat Zareen got Arjuna Award. Another Telugu girl, table tennis player Sreeja Akula was selected for Arjuna Avarju. Badminton player Lakshyasen and some other sportsmen got awards. A total of 25 people have received Arjuna Award, 7 Dronacharya Award, 4 Life Time Achievement Award and 3 organizations have received Khel Prathuhan Puraskar Awards. The winners will be presented with President Draupadi Murmu Awards at a formal function at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
A selection committee comprising of eminent sports personalities, sports journalists and sports administrators for the National Awards every year for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Recommends nominations.
