MIW Vs DCW Highlights: Delhi masterstroke to Mumbai – 110 out in nine overs – Capitals on top!

Mumbai Indians suffered a heavy defeat in the ongoing match against Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League tournament. Batting first in this match, Mumbai Indians scored 109 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Later, Delhi Capitals scored 110 runs after losing one wicket in just 9 overs. With the huge win, the net run rate also improved and reached the first position in the points table. The top team in the Women’s Premier League points table will directly advance to the finals.

Delhi came into the ring with a small target of 110 runs and smashed the small target with flying colors. Openers Shefali Verma (33: 15 balls, six fours, one six) and Meg Lanning (32 not out: 22 balls, four fours, one six)  fired from the first ball. The duo added 56 runs for the first wicket in just 4.3 overs.

Though Shefali Verma was out at this stage, her replacement, one-down batsman Alice Capsey (38 not out: 17 balls, one four, five sixes) played faster. All sides of the ground erupted with sixes. It is remarkable that he hit five sixes in this match. With this, Delhi Capitals achieved the target in nine overs.

Mumbai got off to a bad start after losing the toss and going into bat. The top order has completely collapsed. Openers Yastika Bhatia (1 off 6 balls), Hayley Mathews (5 off 10 balls, one four) and Nat Scheever Brunt (0 off 1 ball) all failed miserably. With this, Mumbai lost three wickets for 10 runs. Amelia Kerr (8: 16 balls, one four) who came next did not stay at the crease for long. Balls, three fours, one six) worked to accelerate the innings. They added 37 runs for the fifth wicket.
