The incident took place on the fourth day of the Wellington Test. In the 159th over of Jack Leach’s innings, Kiwis batsman Tom Blundell played a shot towards deep mid-wicket. Ben Stokes runs behind the ball.. Blundell-Braswell has already completed two runs. While taking the third run.. Stokes threw the ball towards the wicket keeper Ben Folks. Fox received the ball and pushed the ball over the wickets.
By the time Folks demolished the wickets, the batter’s foot and bat had not touched the ground.. both were still in the air. Braswell, who showed laziness in keeping the bat on the ground, had to be run out despite going into the crease. Braswell (8 runs off 19 balls) unexpectedly reached the pavilion with the England wicketkeeper’s timing.
New Zealand won this Test against England by one run. While England declared the first innings at 435/8 in 87.1 overs, the Kiwis were bowled out for 209 runs. New Zealand, who played the follow-on, were bowled out for 483 runs in the second innings. With a target of 258 runs, the tourist English team came into the ring in the last innings and were bowled out for 256 runs.
Harry Brooke, who scored 186 runs in the first innings, was run out in the second innings without facing a single ball. In the 21st over of the innings, Southee tried for a root single which was played towards the gully on the first ball. Braswell received the ball before Brooke, who had just come into the crease, came running from the non-striker’s end and gave it to the wicket keeper. Because of this, Brooke had to run out. Thus Braswell avenged his run-out against England.
