Lucky to have got a chance to talk to Rohit and Pant after being dropped: Jemima

Dambulla, Jun 23 (PTI) Encouraging words from Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant have boosted Jemima Rodriguez when she was going through a tough time after being dropped from the Indian women’s cricket team and working on her return to the team.

The cricketer feels that she was lucky that she got a chance to interact with Rohit and Pant.

Jemima, who failed to make it to the Indian team for the World Cup in New Zealand, played a key role in India’s victory with an unbeaten 36 off 27 balls when she made a comeback against Sri Lanka here on Thursday.

Jemima said in the post-match press conference, “My journey since the last Sri Lanka tour has not been smooth, I have had ups and downs. I spoke to Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, they told me that these moments will define your career, they told me not to take it (being out of the team before the World Cup) in a negative way.

“He told me that I should face the challenge and move on. I was lucky to get a chance to talk to him.

Batting at number five, Jemima did not give in to the pressure created by the Sri Lankan bowlers and scored important runs for the Indian team. He hit three fours and a six in his innings. India scored 138 for six and then registered a 34-run victory with excellent performance from the bowlers.

Jemima said, “In the last four to five months, I have understood my game better. I have been patient. I have changed but my goals have not changed.

“I started preparing soon after I was dropped from the team,” he said.

Jemima, who came to the crease at the crucial time of the innings, said that she was nervous in the beginning.

“This innings matters a lot, I was nervous in the beginning but hitting boundaries from late cuts helped which made things easier. I have returned to the team after four-five months or more. I was full of enthusiasm. ,
