Quinton de Gock 50 (29), Deepak Hooda 41 (27), Krunal Pandya 25 (27) and Marcus Steinis 28 (14) were the top scorers for Lucknow, who were bowled out for 176/7 in 20 overs.
Kolkata’s Andre Russell 45 (19) and Sunil Narine 22 (12) were the only batsmen to score big. Kolkata were bowled out for 101/10 in 14.3 overs, losing by 73 runs.
With the loss, Kolkata have won just 4 of 11 matches. This team can only get a maximum of 14 points. With 10 teams participating this season, 16 points is considered essential.
Speaking after the appearance of the match, Shreyas Iyer explained the reasons for the defeat. “The Lucknow team excelled in both batting and bowling. Accumulated runs in the Power Play. Without predicting how the pitch would perform, we made the wrong choice of bowling. I just thought I could control the Lucknow team within 160 runs. But in the end, they did a great job and scored big, ”he said.
Speaking further, he said, “Coach McCullum and I discussed chasing. This is what always happens. I think it’s better not to win the toss. Our bowling was excellent in the middle overs. All we need is victory in the next three matches. We will work hard for that, ”he said.
