The pair put on a partnership of 363 runs for the third wicket. Both of them also completed double centuries in this sequence. Williamson was dismissed at the team’s score of 481. Soon after, Henry Nicholas completed a double century. After that, New Zealand’s innings was declared by the captain of the team, Tim Southee.

After that, the Sri Lankan team who played the first innings faced severe setbacks in the beginning. Opener Fernando (6) and Kushal Mendis (0) were dismissed for single digit scores.
