Junior Hockey World Cup: Kovid-19 investigation of players, officials will be done every 72 hours

Bhubaneswar, Nov 20 (PTI) Players and officials coming here for the Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup will undergo RT-PCR every 72 hours. A senior official of the state sports department gave this information on Saturday.

At present, about 500 tests and its reports (results of the test) are being issued daily at the Regional Medical Research Center (RMRC) of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services Secretary R Vinil Krishna said, “Every 72 hours the players, officials, hotel staff and everyone involved in the event is being re-screened.”

The tournament will be held from November 24 to December 5.

Krishna said that the state administration is making every effort to prepare for the smooth conduct of the Games. “We are working towards providing a safe and memorable environment to the junior hockey players who come here with big dreams for this international sporting event,” he said.

They are being investigated since the international teams started arriving here on November 15.

He said that many teams including India, Germany, Poland, Belgium, USA, Canada, South Africa, Netherlands have already reached Bhubaneswar before the tournament and some more teams will come here in the next few days.
