Shane Watson On Delhi Pitches: Before the match against Chennai, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has questioned the pitches of his own team’s home ground. Significantly, Delhi had to face defeat against Punjab Kings by 31 runs in their last home match. After this match, Shane Watson has raised questions on the Delhi pitch.
Delhi’s assistant coach Shane Watson said that the slow and inconsistent nature of the pitches at their home venue has not been very good and has not suited their batting line-up.
Let us tell you that in IPL 2023, Delhi has won only two out of six matches played at home so far. Watson said, "Look, to be completely honest, the pitches in Delhi are not very good. If you have a different setup for your team, then they’re probably great. If you have a lot of Indian top-order batsmen, that wicket will suit the team, but this is not the combination of our team."
Watson said, "We then saw what could really happen from our batting line-up with the overseas batsmen and Prithvi Shaw, which is our strength. But unfortunately, when we came here in Delhi, it was not easy to bat on this wicket."
Delhi’s assistant coach further added, "Hopefully, next season we will again have a very similar team and the conditions will be more suitable for the make-up of our team. I hope next season we will get a good pitch for our team where our world class batsmen will show their natural game.."
Watson continued, "However, this is no excuse for us not to perform well, it is just that it has made it more difficult for us and our batsmen to be at their best. Hopefully from one season to the next, there will be better pitches and there will be big changes like the make-up of our team, it is really not easy for us."
Watson was quick to admit that Shaw was not at his best in attack in the initial part of IPL 2023, which was one of the most troubling things for Delhi Capitals. They said, "One of the most disappointing parts of this IPL season for Delhi Capitals was Prithvi Shaw. I have always been a big fan of Prithvi and love watching Prithvi bat. As he did that night in Dharamshala, he is one of the most elegant batsmen around. He can compete with the best bowling with his skills."
