IPL 2023: Chris Gayle told how Virat Kohli helped him score his first IPL century, know the whole story

Chris Gayle: Royal Challengers Bangalore i.e. RCB has honored two of its legends RCB Hall of Fame before the start of IPL 2023. The name of one of these two legends is AB de Villiers, while the name of the other is Chris Gayle. For his honor, RCB had organized an event, which was named RCB Unbox Event. On the occasion of this event, Chris Gayle recalled his first IPL century and told how Kohli helped him score his first IPL century.

Chris Gayle told during this special event of RCB that, "In my first match for RCB, when I was on 98, Virat Kohli blocked a couple of consecutive balls so that I could score my first IPL century." Let us tell you that Chris Gayle scored the first century of IPL against KKR in 2011 while playing for RCB. Batting first in that match, KKR scored 171 runs in 20 overs. Chasing that target, Gayle played an unbeaten century of 102 runs in 55 balls for RCB. Apart from him, Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 38 and Virat also played unbeaten innings of 30 runs. 

Virat helped Gayle in his first century

RCB won this match on the first ball of the 19th over, but Virat could have won the match only on the second ball of the 18th over, but he did not do so. Virat hit a four on the first ball of the 18th over. After that RCB needed only 2 runs to win and Gayle was on non-strike, remaining unbeaten on 98 runs. Kohli then blocked 6 consecutive balls and did not take any runs. Out of these 6 balls, one ball was wide. On the first ball of the next over, Gayle hit his team for a four and also completed his first century in IPL.

After that first century, Chris Gayle scored many centuries for RCB and made many IPL records in his name. RCB has also given him the Hall of Fame honor as well as a tribute by retiring his jersey number 333 forever.
