India’s spectacular comeback in Junior Hockey World Cup, beat Canada 13-1

Bhubaneswar. Recovering from an unexpected defeat in the opening match, defending champions India thrashed Canada 13-1 on Thursday in a do or die match of the Junior Hockey World Cup. India were defeated by France 5-4 on the first day. Playing for the second consecutive day, the Indian team adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning today and did not give Canada any chance to return to the match.

Sanjay again scored a hat-trick (17th, 32nd, 59th minute) for India in the match played at Kalinga Stadium without spectators. Apart from him, Arijit Singh Hundal also scored three goals (40th, 50th, 51st minute). Uttam Singh (6th and 47th minute) and Shardanand Tiwary (35th and 53rd) scored two goals each while Captain Vivek Sagar Prasad (8th, Maninder Singh 27th) and Abhishek Lakra (55th) scored.

Canada’s only goal in the 30th minute was Tardiff Christopher from a penalty corner. Earlier in other matches, Argentina beat Egypt 14-0, Netherlands beat Korea 12-5, Spain beat America 17-0, France beat Poland 7-1. India now has to play Poland on Saturday.
