India won the toss and elected to bat. Received. There were some changes in the squad for this match. Ishant Kishan replaces KL Rahul and Chahal replaces Ashwin. Openers Ishant Kishan (29:21 off six fours) and Rohit Sharma (56:31 off five fours and three sixes) played devastating innings. At the end of the six overs of the power play, India scored 69 not out.
New Zealand captain Michelle Shantner dealt a heavy blow to India in this match. Ishant Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav (0: 4 balls) were dismissed in their first over and Rishabh Pant (4: 6) in the second over. The team reached 90 for 10 in 10 overs. Shreyas Iyer (25:20 balls, two fours) and Venkatesh Iyer (20:15 balls, one four, one six) came into the crease this time and stopped the fall of wickets for a while. However, India were in trouble again as both the batsmen were out in successive overs. Playing aggressively, India scored 184 for seven in 20 overs. Among the New Zealand bowlers, Shantner took three wickets, while Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Adam Milne and Trent Boult took the wickets each. New Zealand did not move in the direction of the target at any stage. With the exception of Martin Guptill (51:36 off four balls, four fours and four sixes), no one has crossed the 20-run mark yet. All but three of the team’s batsmen were limited to a single digit score. New Zealand were all out for 111 in 17.2 overs. India won by 73 runs. Among Indian bowlers, Akshar Patel took three wickets while Herschelle Patel took two wickets. Venkatesh Iyer, Chahal and Deepak Chahar took wickets.
