I believe in myself to do well when I get to the crease: Jaiswal

Bengaluru, Jun 22 (PTI) Yashasvi Jaiswal is just 22 years old but he knows how to make a strong comeback. He did so against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League last month and performed brilliantly for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy knockouts this month.

After scoring a century in the quarter-finals, Jaiswal scored two centuries in the semi-finals. He was on his way to his fourth century of the season against Madhya Pradesh in the final but was dismissed for 78 by Madhya Pradesh pacer Anubhav Agarwal on the first day of the Ranji Trophy final on Wednesday.

Jaiswal said after the first day’s play, “Yes, I am a little sad about it but this is cricket. You have to experience both the good and the bad. That’s what I’ve learned so far.”

“In cricket, things don’t happen the way you want them to but I’m trying my best to improve myself in cricket and as a human being,” he said.

Jaiswal was dropped from the first few matches during the IPL but made a comeback in the Royals’ playing XI in the second half of the tournament and played some scintillating innings.

Jaiswal said, “The same thing happened in IPL. I got to play three matches, then got out and then came back after seven matches. But in the midst of all this it is clear in my mind that I have to work hard and always be disciplined.

Jaiswal said that only hard work pays off during bad times.

The left-handed batsman said that he is confident of doing well under pressure conditions.

Jaiswal said, “The final is different because your mindset is different. People close to me have told me so many things because they want me to do well. Of course they create pressure. To be honest, I am happy to face this pressure, I enjoy it.

He said, “I come down with the mindset that I will do this. I believe in myself and believe that whenever I go to the crease, I will do well.
