Hope Indian team tour South Africa: Farhan Behardien

Johannesburg, Nov 27 (PTI) Former South Africa all-rounder Farhan Behardien is hopeful that the Indian team’s tour next month will not be canceled due to the new coronavirus variant as the young cricketers of his country are in great need of this series.

The Indian team has to play three Tests, three ODIs and four T20 matches in Johannesburg, Centurion, Paarl and Cape Town.

Due to the new Corona variant, the tour seems to be in trouble. The BCCI says that any decision on the series will be taken based on the advice of the government.

Behardien tweeted, “Hopefully the world’s biggest cricket playing nation visits our country next month. This is desperately needed by the next generation of South African players.

It is understood that BCCI will talk to Cricket South Africa regarding this in the next few days. There is panic all over the world with the new variant B.1.1529 of Corona. The World Health Organization has named it Omicron.

The impact of the new variant seems to be on the sports here. The Netherlands has skipped the ODI series at Centurion. The FIH Junior Hockey World Cup to be held here has also been put on hold for the time being. The tournament is to be held from December 5 to 16.
