Karan Shinde, who started the second day with 83 runs, scored 110 runs and was dismissed. After both of them who added 254 runs got out.. Andhra team lost wickets consecutively.
On the first day, Avesh Khan’s ball hit Andhra captain Hanuma Vihari’s left wrist hard. Although Vihari tried to bat, he could not stop the pain. With this, Hurt retired at 16 runs. He was immediately taken to the hospital and after a scan, it was found that the wrist was fractured.
After Ricky Bhui got out on the second day, Vihari came to the crease as the last batsman after taking consecutive wickets. Due to pain in his wrist.. Vihari who could not even hold the bat properly with his left hand.. took the avatar of left hander. Vihari, whose left hand was attached to the bat only, batted with one hand. Not only that, Avesh Khan bowled two consecutive boundaries with a single hand. After adding 26 runs to the last wicket, Vihari was dismissed on 27 runs.
Despite the fracture of the wrist, the left-hander avatar, the Andhra captain’s one-handed batting impressed everyone. Whenever Vihari hit the boundary with one hand, his teammates cheered with claps and whistles.
This is not the first time that Hanuma Vihari has shown this level of dedication to the game. On the final day of the Sydney Test as part of the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Vihari battled it out with Ravichandran Ashwin and ended the match in a draw. Despite suffering a hamstring injury in that match, Vihari, who faced 161 balls, stood as a barrier to the Australian bowlers with 23 runs. After seeing Vihari batting single-handed in the Ranji quarters, netizens are remembering his performance against the Aussies.
‘Hanuma Vihari.. batted with left hand.. more importantly played with one hand. Team India cricketer Dinesh Karthik praised the Andhra captain saying this is another level of courage.
Former South African captain Graeme Smith also took on the avatar of a left-hander and batted with one hand due to a fractured wrist.
